Since its inception, Jenkins Hall has served a variety of purposes. The hall is a single-story building that was constructed on Capital Square by the city of Milledgeville in 1926. For five generations, this building served the county as an elementary school.

Georgia Military College (GMC) received title and ownership of Jenkins Hall in the early 1970’s. By 2017, GMC was in need of additional academic space for its preparatory school and decided to renovate all 15,529 square feet of Historic Jenkins Hall rather than construct a new building.

GMC was also in need of additional dining space to meet the demand of the growing preparatory school enrollment. An additional 16,632 square feet were added to Jenkins Hall to satisfy the need for dining hall facilities.

Services Performed

Abbeville Commissioning commissioned both buildings from Design to Warranty phase. The specific systems that were commissioned include:

  • Mechanical
  • HVAC controls
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical

Awards and Recognition

In 2020, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation selected the Jenkins Hall project as the winner of their annual Excellence in Rehabilitation Award. The award “…recognizes projects that make compatible use of a building through repair, alterations, or additions while preserving the features of a property that convey its historic value.” Read more about the 2020 Excellence in Rehabilitation Award here.
